Question 4:
I installed CMS-PC 4.0 to a network drive and now when I run CMS-PC 4.0, I have started getting messages that I do not have enough file handles. I edited my CONFIG.SYS file like your manual instructed. What am I doing wrong?

Answer:
When you run CMS-PC 4.0 on a network, you may have to edit another file, in addition to your CONFIG.SYS file, to make sure you have enough file handles to run the software on your network. Follow these instructions:

1. Double-click the DOS Prompt icon (usually found in the Main Group).

2. Once at a DOS Prompt, type the following: cd\

3. At the C:\< prompt, type the following: dir net.cfg /s

4. A list of the directories that the file NET.CFG resides in will be displayed. Determine the location of the directory where you can find this file, and type the following: copy c:\"location of directory"\net.cfg

Note: If your computer returns a message that no file called net.cfg was found, type the same command but use the name SHELL.CFG. If SHELL.CFG is found, substitute SHELL.CFG in the following command.

5. Type the following: edit net.cfg

6. An editing screen will appear. You will need to add a command to this screen. To do this, first position your cursor on the line just after the last command. Then type the following: FILE HANDLES=99

NOTE: Make sure there is are no spaces before or after the = sign.

7. Choose File, Exit. Choose Yes to Save.

8. You will need to reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.
