Question
2: How do I export data from CMS-PC 4.0 to use in other programs? Answer:
This can easily be done with CMS-PC 4.0s Request Manager (report
writer). Follow these steps to export your data: 1.
At the CMS-PC 4.0 Main Module menu, choose Reports to access the
Request Manager (report writer). 2. A report
request must be defined in the CMS-PC 4.0 Report Writer in order to export the
data out of CMS-PC 4.0. If the report you want to export is one of the standard
reports that came with CMS-PC 4.0, continue to step 3. (You can tell this by looking
under the "Created by" column. "ICMS" means it came with the
software.) If the report is one that you developed yourself, skip to step 8. 3.
The standard reports that come with CMS-PC 4.0 cannot be edited and exported until
you save the report to a different name. Select the desired report to export
by clicking once on its row. (The row will become highlighted.) Click Edit
(located at the bottom of the Request Manager Screen). The Request Editor
window will appear. 4. Click the button at the
bottom of the Request Editor window labeled Save as... The Save
Request As window will appear. 5. Type
a unique name for your export, and press Enter. (Tip: Type a number,
such as 1, at the end of the current report name so that the new report you are
creating will show up next to the old report in the Request Manager list.) 6.
Type a unique description for the report Editing the description is optional,
but you might want to add something to the description that indicates that you
are exporting the report output. Click OK when you are done. 7.
Click the button labeled Output... located in the lower left corner
of the Request Editor screen. The output editor window will appear. 8.
Click once on the button within the Output section of the window (its default
label is "Reports-Columns"). A pop-up menu will appear. 9.
From the pop-up menu, choose a format with your mouse - Browse, Report, Labels,
Graph, Spreadsheet, Mail merge, or Data. From the sub-menu that appears, click
on the desired format (such as Excel or Lotus). 10.
Take notice of two things: 1)The Output button is now labeled with your desired
format. 2) In the "Send Output To" section at the bottom of the editor
screen, "File" is now selected as the output location, and a path and
filename appears that indicates the location your output will be saved. Please
notice that sometimes the filename will not have an extension this
is important when you attempt to locate and open the file with your other software.
If your other software does not locate the file right away, try searching for
it using "All Files" as the file type. 11.
You can edit the path and/or filename that will be used to save your file by double-clicking
the File radio button. 12. Click the OK
button at the bottom of the screen when you are finished. You will return to the
Request Editor window.
13. Choose Run to create the export
file! Remember, the output of your report is being sent to a filename,
not the printer. You can make additional modifications to your report
using the Request Editor screen. Any changes will automatically be saved.
When you are finished editing your export report, choose Done.
